Aravinda's Song

Lomilomi…ka lele…mehana aloha…the bodywork, yoga, and nurturing spirit of Hawai'i first reached me through the hands and heart of beloved healer and teacher Aravinda.  If asked, he would likely say that he is only the canoe, the vessel through which healing flows…my pu'uwai (heart) however, is grateful to his pu'uwai, if for no reason but its willingness and commitment to be a clear channel.  Starting with my first lomilomi session and continuing to this day, I've experienced breakthroughs with Hawaiian healing which words alone seem totally inadequate to describe…well, that's just one more advantage in being a musician.  In the abstract wash of notes and lyrics, I'm able to paint a much more vivid picture of my memory and the awe-filled gratitude that comes with it.

Soothe me, rock me
Bring me up
By my bones so bare
Winnow free
Make room for me
Buckle bonds in air
Break my frozen stare

Like the womb
Returning soon
Body to the sound
Fold and rush
The ocean's hush
Newborn's querulous cries
Deep green seeing eyes

Some may dress in vestige drifts grey along the sky
Tipped in white and perforating by and by
Someone prayed, was made a channel for the stream, and found my way
Aside from living I can say no more than a dream was elevated
Its space is sated

Soothe me, rock me
Bring me up
By my bones so bare
